My daughter Sean is getting married on June 6th to her finance Chase. The wedding will be held at her favorite place in the world, Cape May, NJ. where she spent her childhood summers. Cape May is a beautiful & historic Victorian beach town at the very end of the Jersey shoreline.
Sean has always dreamed of a beach wedding, so we chose the Beach Club of Cape May. It is a neighborhood pool and cabana where she spent much of her time as a child hanging out with friends. The club happens to be located right on a secluded beach which makes for an amazing backdrop!
The drawback is that other than a pavilion and pool, there is no place to hold the wedding. Therefore we need to rent a tent and create a beautiful space for the wedding celebration. This will take a lot of planning and creativity on a limited budget. Fortunately creativity is something our entire family has a lot of!
We have enlisted a wonderful group of people to help make this happen. Fortunately we all have the same vision for the wedding. Our goal is to create a “rustic beach chic feeling”, and a wedding that everyone can feel relaxed at and have fun.
The food will be catered by Island Grill of Cape May. It is a family run restaurant that specializes in seasonally inspired cuisine and sustainable seafood. Now that is right up my alley! www.islandgrillofcapemay.com
We are working with Carol who has helped us create a menu that includes fish tacos, brisket sliders & southern fried chicken with an emphasis on local produce and fresh salads using local Jersey produce.
We have also hired agardenpartyllc.com, a florist and decorating company run by two sisters, Mary & Dawn. They live on a farm in New Jersey and grow many of the flowers they use in their arrangements. They are helping us to create a space that will make Sean & Chase’s wedding a very personal and memorable wedding.
For the little creative touches, Sean & I are working together with her father to make some special decorative items that we hope will add a personal family touch to the wedding.
Our idea is a “kick off your shoes” type of wedding! (flip flops will be a available if needed)
We are planning mason jar floral arrangements with garden flowers and rustic decorative touches. Sean’s dad is cutting wood slabs for the center pieces. Sean has chosen ivory and blush as her colors, which we will incorporate into the color scheme and flower arrangements.
The tables linens will be decorated in “Rustic Chic”.
We are beginning to make signs and decorate jars now, in preparation for June 6th!
Sean’s dad made this ladder for displays and flower arrangements – I can’t wait to decorate it!
Some decorative items for the ladder and buckets for extra petals to throw. Mr. & Mrs. banner for the sweetheart Table.
We painted some glass jars and vases in blush pink to mix in with other clear mason jar flower arrangements.
A box for gifts & cards.
Pens for signing the guestbook.
Champagne glasses for the toast!
There will be S’Mores by the fire pit.
…and there will be a game area for shuffleboard.
Wooden surfboards to stick in the sand at the ceremony for seating sides.
Little Baskets for the Flower Girls to fill with petals.
Mason jars will be hanging from the trees and there will be lanterns in the sand too.
We are planning sparklers and floating lanterns to end the evening!
Saturday, May 9th
The bridal shower.
All of Sean’s bridesmaids and close female friends and family came to the city to celebrate with us. Her sister (and maid of honor) Erin, and I planned a brunch for her. The bachelorette party was later that evening in the Meat Packing District. (apparently it was a lot of fun!!)
At the shower “goodie bags” were handed out.
One of the “Goodies” for the bags was gold hand painted oyster shells for everyone.
On the menu:
- Mimosa’s with Fresh Orange juice & Champagne
- Bloody Mary’s / n’More
- Mini Colorful Vegetable Frittatas
- Mixed Green Salad with Radishes and Micro Greens
- Fresh Fruit Bowl
