My Latest Watercolor Project
My daughter Sean is pregnant and I am so very happy about that! We gave a wedding last June and now she and Chase are expecting a baby this June (or early July) – which is all pretty exciting! The baby will be joining my son Ryan and his wife, Nomi’s two children to make three grandchildren in all…..so far!!
Sean has just started to decorate the nursery in her Brooklyn apartment. It’s a small room off their bedroom, but it has a nice little window and it will be perfect for the baby! For the crib and decor she is choosing soft whites, and ivory shades with just a touch of blush accents, as she did at the wedding.
I saw in a Restoration Hardware catalog where they used framed photos of baby animals as wall decoration for a nursery. I decided to do my own watercolors of baby animals instead of using photos. With my children’s book background, I figured I could add my own little personalities to the baby animals with clothing added in pastel blush shades. So here they are!
BABY WHITE TIGER BABY FOX
BABY BUNNY BABY LAMB
BABY POLAR BEAR BABY GIRAFFE
BABY ELEPHANT BABY PIG
BABY RACCOON BABY DUCK
BABY FROG BABY OWL
Now I am heading to Michaels to get them framed with nice pastel mats and white frames. The idea is to hang them in a grouping with three on the top and three on the bottom. I will take a photo and add it to the blog when I get them back!
And here they are framed in the nursery – waiting for her to arrive!!
I can’t wait!!
Nice to see you back at your art. Loved the baby animal idea!
Yes, it was a fun little project!
OHHHH! So adorable. So detailed for watercolor. I love them and can just imagine Sean’s nursery now.
Thank you! It’s just a little room, but she is fixing it ups so cute. I will show you photos when it is all finished!
These are the cutest things EVER! i LOVE them so, so much and can’t wait to hang them in her room!!
I am so glad you like them!! I can’t wait for her to wake up in the morning and get to know her baby animals! xoxo
So nice! I love these. Do I sense a book idea?
Thanks!! Well, that could be a possibility…they were a lot of fun to do! It was nice to get my hand back into painting with a children’s theme again!
It’s tough to pick a favorite, they are all so well done and the color scheme goes perfectly together. The rabbit might be my fav though
You know how detailed I can get with my painting – but it was refreshing to keep these in a light pastel tone (to match the nursery) which did not allow me to do that. It was actually liberating!
I love them ! So amazing !
Thank you!! I hope the baby loves them too!
Team giraffe up here (of course!). They are so cute, would be an adorable baby book.
Thanks!! You will see them framed in person at Sean’s baby shower. I really have had fun painting them!
You are amazing lorinda! Such beautiful pictures.
Hi Sarah, and thanks so much!! I have had so much fun doing these watercolors – all inspired by decorating Sean’s nursery!
So beautiful ! Such a talent, I’ m really impressed , it’ s amazing!!
Hi Christelle, Thanks so much! I do kind of think of my photos as paintings – I took still life painting classes a while back and it gives me great enjoyment to create colorful dishes!
