My Collage Project

My Collage Project

The new and improved cottage in the Hamptons is getting close to being finished. Now comes the fun part of decorating it! Last summer I worked on a collage project, hoping to end up with a few things we could hang on the walls. I normally tend to work in a realistic manner, which can get too tight at times. Collage frees me up to be able to work looser. I did an earlier post on this, but the time has come to frame these now. For these collages I used Arches watercolor…

“Rustic Chic” Wedding Decor That You Can Make Yourself

Sean & Chase's wedding - June 6, 2015 We are all working together to create a festive atmosphere for my daughter's upcoming wedding in Cape May. It is going to be held at the Cape May Beach Club, which is a pool club with a pavilion. It is located directly next to a secluded beach. There will be a rented tent on the big day, and tables and linens of course - but we need to use our imagination to make it a real celebration. We want it to be personal and beautiful,…
A Series of Small fabric Works of Art

A Series of Small fabric Works of Art

I am in the process of working on a series of small fabric works of art, inspired by Louise Bourgeois. Each one is 12" x 12". Each square work of art is made of fabrics that I have collected in a mostly neutral color palette. Natural and handmade fabrics appeal to me and I…

Still Life Paintings That Inspire Me

There is something about still life painting that inspires me. I have been drawn to this genre of painting for as long as I can remember and I am not quite sure why. I guess it is because it combines my love for interiors, fabrics and also for beautiful fruits and vegetables. Anyway, the combination is irresistible for me and I cannot get enough of it. Here are some paintings that I look to for inspiration. Paul Cezanne More Cezanne Henri Matisse Vincent Van Gogh Renoir Claude Monet Claude Monet Chardin
Experimenting With Collage

Experimenting With Collage

I enjoy the process of experimenting with collage. For a realistic painter like me it is pure freedom to paint loosely, use torn paper and found materials, and to move it all around - not knowing what the final outcome will be. I shift around the shapes and colors and other elements around until I come up with a final composition that I like - then I glue everything down. For these collages I collected handmade papers, painted over some of them, then tore them into shapes. I also picked up scraps of…
